PrintOMatic 1.8
Posted December 15, 2011
The current release version of PrintOMatic and PrintOMatic Lite is 1.8. This version is compatible with Director 11 and 11.5, and supports as Mac OS X "Lion" as well as Windows 7. If you own version 1.7.x of PrintOMatic or PrintOMatic Lite, you will need an upgraded serial number to work with the latest version of the Xtras. New users, and users of versions older than 1.7 will need a new serial number for these Xtras. For more information, and to download unregistered versions of the software that you can try out before you buy, visit our products page.

PrintOMatic 1.8 Beta 5 for Mac and Windows
Posted June 2, 2008
The latest builds of PrintOMatic and PrintOMatic Lite include a complete UTF16 Unicode text engine on both Mac and Windows. This should enable the Xtras to print characters from any language, including Asian scripts, with a minimum of fuss. Earlier betas of the Mac version were still based on MBCS, and had issues with non-Roman scripts, which should all be resolved now. As a bonus, Unicode support on Mac has resulted in a much better looking print preview, with more faithful, accurate, and anti-aliased text rendering. We hope this will be the last beta release before we call the 1.8 builds "final" and package the complete release bundles, as well as creating Shockwave packages. Because of this, please report any bugs you find promptly. Like the other version 1.8 betas, you will need an upgraded serial number or a newly purchased serial number to work with this release. Cross Platform Mac/PC Projector with Director 11.5 and 11
Since I don't think I'm alone, I thought I'd share.
I'm finally successful at creating cross platform complies with printomatic in 11.5 and 11.
On the mac (to get a pc version) you have to add the printomatic file as a dependent file.
On the pc (to get a mac version) you need to manually create the Xtras folder with printomatic inside the projector (actually a folder).
Neither of these are necessary to create a projector on the native platform (e.g. pc on pc). |

The upgrade page does not take my 1.7 serial. Could you explain what is your cut off date or version to qualify for an upgrade. If it's time based then I won't buy a new serial until I really need the xtra to save up on time for the next upgrade. |

I don't see a way to use the POM beta in a shockwave package. Is there a package that I can try? |

Any chance that the shockwave packages are going to be soon? June was a long time ago.
If you're accepting money for the upgrade, you really can't call it beta. I got into a bad situation today, where I got a D11 conversion all finished. Went to test the Shockwave versions and no printing... |

The Only Printing Xtras for Director 11?
Posted May 21, 2008
Ok, sure, PrintOMatic and PrintOMatic Lite for Director 11 are still in beta form, not final releases yet. But the fact is, you can download, use, and even publish with them right now using Director 11.
So as far as we know, that makes PrintOMatic the only cross-platform printing solution that's currently available for -- and built for -- Director 11. Sure, that's going to change soon: other folks are working on updating their Xtras too.
But if you need to print from Director 11 right away, go ahead and download our betas and use them. From all reports we've heard the betas are pretty solid and reliable.

why does nobody answer or return phone calls or Emails reguarding upgrading printomatic..or if upgrading printomatic will fix problems with the NEW windows 7 system? we have a product that has relied on printomatic for years and now of course we are having printing problems with Winblows system 7, Saying not enough memory when I know 6gb of ram should not have any problem printing. we want to know if upgrading printomatic will fix this problem, we would love to pay you for the upgrade but no one SADLY will return our emails or phone calls.. Please get it together or at least tell your users that Printomatic is an unreliable product, but considering your lack of customer support....I guess that is exactly what you are telling your customers.. |

we have a number of interactives that were developed with Director MX2004 -- they successfully used the printomatic lite xtra for years -- but now these same programs are getting a FILE NOT FOUND error. The old url the legacy version been removed from your server? Had the location path changed?
For some reason, the printing function seems to still work for PC users, but the mac users get file not found after an unsuccessful download attempt. We really would like to fix this ...I understand why you don't want to release the 'new' version prematurely, but surely there's a way to not break the old, installed versions while we wait.
Should we remove printomatic and just assume you are no longer providing legacy support ? I'd hate to eliminate the PC print function just because the mac link is not working properly.
Is there a way to fix this ? Please advise... |

No auto-downloading Shockwave packages for the new version just yet. I don't want the general public unknowingly downloading and using beta versions until we've thoroughly tested them. |

When you say publish with them right now, does that mean the plug-in can be automatically downloaded when used in Shockwave? I understood this was not yet possible with the beta. |

PrintOMatic 1.8 Beta 3 for Windows
Posted May 20, 2008
PrintOMatic and PrintOMatic Lite MX are now available in Unicode beta builds that are compatible with Director 11 for Windows. Unlike the old releases (which can only handle low-order ASCII text in D11), this version fully supports special and extended characters and international text, including Asian scripts (or at least the Chinese text we've tested). Like the other version 1.8 betas, you will need an upgraded serial number or a newly purchased serial number to work with this release. PrintOMatic 1.8 Beta 2 for Mac OS X
Posted April 23, 2008
Beta 2 of PrintOMatic MX and PrintOMatic Lite MX 1.8 for Macintosh are now available. These builds are universal binary, and should work on both Intel and PowerPC based Macs. They require Director 11. As we have no PowerPC Macs to test with, it would be nice if someone can confirm that the PPC build works as expected. Also, we have no idea how these Xtras will work with foreign languages (especially the really crazy ones like Japanese), so any test feedback you have with these languages would be appreciated. These builds also require a serial number upgrade, available now from our web site. If you use an old serial number with these versions, you will get "invalid serial number" error messages. Beta MX 1.8b2 does not print Chinese characters. Substitutes ? for each character English text in same document prints fine. Haven't tried Japanese yet. Mac OSX 10.5.2 D11 on Intel iMac
Version 1.7.3 with Director MX 2004 from same machine prints both Chinese and Japanese with no problems.
No changes were made to the printing code. |

What do I need to do to get the new universal Xtra working with existing Shockwave apps when running on an Intel Mac with the new SW Xtra? They still tell me that the POM Xtra can't be found. |

PrintStage should work great, Unicode or not, because it prints the Stage as a bitmap. I'm wondering about how the Xtra handles actual Strings passed via append() or drawText(). But thanks for testing what you have already. |

Just installed Lite on iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with OSX 10.5.2 and Director 11. Using simple printstage command to print a screen containing Azerbaijani unicode text - seems fine, except no serial number yet. Well done guys, you've made my day.. Thanks
PS - logging into beta bulletin board fails though... |

PrintOMatic MX 1.8 Beta 1
Posted April 21, 2008
Beta release 1 of the PrintOMatic MX Xtra for Director 11 on MacIntel is now available for download and testing. For now, only the full version of the Xtra is available, and it is only available for the MacIntel release of Director 11. We hope to follow up later this week with a more comprehensive beta release that includes the Lite version of the Xtra, as well as a Windows build. Note that you can use version 1.7.5 of the Xtra in Director 11 for Windows. However, you will experience problems with any extended characters you use, since they are passed to the Xtra in Unicode format instead of with the native character set. If you are an existing user, this release will require a serial number upgrade if you want register and distribute it. Any "invalid serial number" warnings you encounter in your testing are normal. The Xtra is in .zip format, simply expand it and place in your Director 11 Xtras folder. Please discuss any issues you encounter on our Beta Bulletin Board. Click here to download via HTTP.Click here to download via FTP.

Upcoming Releases of Our Xtras
Posted February 4, 2008
The PrintOMatic MX, PrintOMatic Lite MX and Table MX Xtras remain actively under development, debugging and improvement. It is our goal to release updated versions of our Xtras in parallel with updated releases of Macromedia (now Adobe) Director. That's all we can tell you at the moment. The cost for registered users to upgrade has historically been free for minor bug fixes and improvements, and a nominal $50 US for releases that have required substantial engineering efforts (e.g. major new operating systems, chip architectures, etc.) To ensure you can receive a discounted upgrade quickly when new versions are released, take some time in advance to locate your serial number. The easiest way to do this if you haven't saved or printed a copy of your original registration email is to search the Lingo code of a production that uses one of our Xtras for the "register" command. We will post more information about upcoming releases of our Xtras on this page and via RSS feed at http://www.printomatic.com/rss
