Tech Note: Embedded Fonts and PrintOMatic

Products: PrintOMatic Lite MX Xtra, PrintOMatic Lite Xtra 1.6.5, PrintOMatic MX Xtra, PrintOMatic Xtra 1.6.5
Platforms: Windows (all versions)

Symptom:

Items that use "embedded fonts" in Director don’t print as expected with those fonts.

Solutions:

Director’s "embedded fonts" can be tricky to work with in Windows. Depending upon your Windows security settings and user login, they may not be available for use in printing.

If you are having problems in Mac OS, your problem might be addressed in our tech note "Text Fields Print With Incorrect Fonts"

When you launch a Director projector in Windows, or run your movie in Shockwave, the projector attempts to install all embedded fonts temporarily into the Windows system folder.

If the current user doesn’t have permission to access the System Folder, this action will fail, and the fonts will not be available for printing. This would most commonly occur in more secure Windows systems, such as NT and 2000.

Macromedia’s solution to this problem is as follows: "The user will need to log in as a Power User or Administrator to view the embedded fonts in a Director movie. Alternatively, the developer can choose to build the Director movie without the use of embedded fonts."
